“Aberration”

This painting was based on the actual word aberration and its definition which is; the act of departing from the right, normal or usual course. The choice to deviate from the ordinary.  On the surface level it also associates with the chromatic aberration effect which is a common optical phenomenon that occurs when a lens cannot bring all wavelengths of light to a single converging point. But this painting was also a symbol of being a black individual in society and always being told to “be careful”, “watch how you act in public”, or  “watch how you speak” all for reasons that stemmed from us being feared; from being “different” when the true difference was one out of our control. The prejudice and constant judgment, having to watch our actions for the peace of mind of someone that wouldn’t bat an eye at our troubles. Aberration is about embracing the difference; the vibrancy and color we bring into a room without having to try. Over time this painting also became a symbol for myself and my ambitions, I always dream and this painting was one of the first true times I dreamed of something I couldn’t see in front of me and brought it to life.
